Ancaster Base Bed Limestone

Ancaster Base Bed is a well-known Lincolnshire limestone that has been used in British building for generations. It is recognised for its warm buff colouring and the natural fossil markings that can often be seen throughout the stone. These small fossil fragments give Ancaster limestone its distinctive character and ensure that every piece has a slightly different appearance.

The stone usually ranges from soft cream through to light honey tones, which makes it easy to match with a wide variety of brickwork and natural stone. Because of its consistent colour and reliable strength, Ancaster Base Bed has long been used for walling, architectural masonry and coping stones.

When used as coping stones, Ancaster limestone provides a solid and attractive finish to garden and boundary walls. As well as improving the appearance of the wall, the coping helps direct rainwater away from the masonry below, offering practical protection while maintaining a natural stone look.

Like all genuine natural stone, some variation in colour, fossil pattern and texture should be expected. These natural differences are part of the material itself and are what give Ancaster limestone its authentic appearance once installed.
